I came across NetApp’s Snap Manager where the snapshot will serve as your backup strategy. Restoring from the snapshots will allow also point in time restore.

If you use MAMP (http://www.mamp.info/en/index.html), you will have GD, pdo_mysql and other goodies readily installed.
